Jens Lindemann is hailed as one of the most celebrated soloists in his instrument’s history and was recently named “International Brass Personality of the Year” (Brass Herald).  He has played in every major concert venue in the world and has performed as lead trumpet with the renowned Canadian Brass and in a solo Command Performance for the Queen of England.    “The trumpet is capable of being played with the virtuosity of a violin, the tenderness of the numan voice and the stylistic flexibility of the piano,” he says.  “it allows me an endless range of communication with audiences.”  Hear this outstanding brassman along with Seattle vocalist Stephanie Porter, the Pacific Lutheran University Jazz Ensemble, and the full Symphony Tacoma performing Rodgers & Hart, Ellington, Garner — the perfect “Lover’s Day” outing!

Bob Hammer led a band with Bob Wilber (1955). He worked in the Sauter/Finnegan Orchestra,^[1] the Roy Eldridge Quartet (1956) and with Gene Krupa^[1] (1956/57). He was a member of Red Allen's^[1] band (1958–1962) and Eddie Condon's (1959/60) band. At that time he recorded with Charles Mingus^[1] (who called him his "Beethoven") and began to work as arranger for the bassist on Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, Townhall Concert and the celebrated The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. . In 1963 he played with Pee Wee Russell, Krupa and Eldridge. In 1964 he was on tour with Bobby Hackett. From 1965 to 1967 he worked as arranger for the Merv Griffin Show. He recorded with Jimmy Knepper,^[1] Johnny Hartman,^[1] Woody Herman,^[1] Clark Terry,^[1] and Elvin Jones. Between 1977 and 1988 he worked as a member of show bands in Las Vegas. After an engagement with Slide Hampton he worked as instructor for jazz improvisation at El Camino Community College and played in the Jimmy Cleveland Octet. He also worked with Barbara McNair, the Tommy Newsome Quartet and the MDA Labor Day Telethon. In 2004 he recorded with Floyd Standifer's quintet. He also arranged dance charts for the Nicholas Brothers, Skip Cunningham, Chester Whitmore, Jacqueline Douget, Deborah Lysholm or Tim Hickey.

July 27–28, 2012.  JazzArtique will feature three jazz stages, an indoor antique event, an outdoor art fair, and local food and spirits in historic downtown Centralia!

Directions from I-5 take exit 82 to downtown Centralia (from the north it's the first Centralia exit and you turn left at the end of the ramp; from the south it's the second exit and you turn right at the end of the ramp). This will put you on Harrison Avenue; when the road divides take the right fork, which will be Main Street. Continue on Main Street and head into historic downtown Centralia. At Pearl Street (one way going south) turn right and then left on Centralia College Blvd. to reach the locations on South Tower Avenue. To reach the North Tower locations, cross Pearl Street and turn left on Tower Avenue (one way going north).

Vocalist David Arteaga will leading an evening of great jazz standards, with pianist Randy Halberstadt, bassist Dan O'Brien and drummer Steve Yusen.  I'll be singing a few duets with David - come out and join us!  This is sure to be a terrific night!!

Jazz giant Bob Hammer honored in concert.
At 81 years old, he still adds a kick with his arrangements to the local jazz scene.

BELLEVUE, WA - Emcee Ken Wiley, Singer Stephanie Porter, and the Full Circle Jazz Ensemble will deliver some of Bob Hammer’s arrangements in production at the Meydenbauer Theater on Thursday July 28, 2011 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  This concert will celebrate Mr. Hammer’s 60 + years in the American music industry and service as a fundraiser/benefit for Bob, to help him with costs incurred from a recent major surgery.

Pianist, Bob Hammer has had a major hand in the American Jazz Scene for over sixty years. He has arranged and played for legends such as Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, and Charles Mingus (Mingus referred to Bob as his, “Beethoven”).

Keynote Speaker Ken Wiley of KPLU’s ‘Art of Jazz’, says, “...it is about the art of jazz, and Bob Hammer is a true artist”

Recently, I had the opportunity to see this group of young musicians playing jazz with so much passion.  I was surprised to find out they were a collective group of students from Roosevelt, Nathan Hale and Garfield.

Watching them made me think back to when I was getting started. I was fortunate to be encouraged by many musicians who shared their stages, introducing me to the music scene …and giving me opportunities to follow my dreams

Contemporary Artist and Arranger, Ryan Shea Smith invited me to sing backgrounds on his recent release “Stay awhile”   The album features a beautiful and original ensemble of songs.

One of the releases “As Long As I’m with You” has been featured on radio stations across the U.S. and has been rising in the charts.

Ryan is an amazing performer and story teller.  His last show at Jazz Alley “Sold out” quickly.  He is so much fun to sing with and I hope you can make it out to the show.
